Roast day every Thursday — the new Huila lot lands on the filter bar at 8am.

Daylight cafe · small-batch filter bar

Slow mornings, poured twice a day

We grind for one bar at a time: espresso at the front, two hand-brewed filters at the back, and a kitchen that bakes to the hour rather than to a schedule.

01 — The counter today

How the day is built

Nothing here is decorative. This is the order the room actually runs in, so you can pick the hour that suits the visit you want.

07.30

Early counter

Espresso, batch brew and the first tray out of the oven. Quiet enough to read; the long table stays clear until nine.

08.00

Filter bar opens

Two single-origin lots on hand-brew, ground to order. Ask for a taste of both before you commit to a cup.

11.30

Second bake

Savoury trays, focaccia and the day's tart come out warm. This is the busiest stretch — expect a short wait at the till.

14.30

Afternoon lull

The calmest part of the day. Laptops welcome, refills on batch brew, and retail bags ground free on request.

Thu

Roast day

We roast in small batches on Thursday mornings. Bags rested three days are set aside on the shelf beside the till.

This week's lots

Two hand-brew lots and the house espresso blend. If you are buying a bag, this is the part worth reading.

Brewing at home and not sure which to take? Tell the person grinding what kit you use and how you drink it — they will point you at one bag rather than three.

04 — The room

Where you will be sitting

One long room with a courtyard door, sixteen seats inside and a bench under the window that catches the morning light.

Laptops

Welcome before 11am and after 2.30pm. During the midday bake we keep tables for eating.

The long table

Seats eight and is shared. Groups of four or more are easiest before ten or late afternoon.

Getting in

Step-free through the courtyard door, which stays propped in opening hours. Accessible washroom at the back.

Dogs and prams

Both fine. Prams park along the window wall so the counter queue stays clear.

05 — Questions

Asked at the till most days

Is there a charge for oat or lactose-free milk?
No. Oat, whole and lactose-free milk all cost the same, and the barista will use a separate jug if you ask.
Can you hold a table for a group?
We do not hold tables during service, but the shared long table seats eight and is usually free before ten or after three. For a group of ten or more, send an enquiry and we will tell you which hours work.
Can I work here for a few hours?
Yes, outside the midday bake — before 11am or after 2.30pm. There is wifi and a run of sockets along the window bench, and nobody will ask you to move if you have bought something recently.
Do you do takeaway cups?
Every drink travels. Bring your own cup and the drink is forty pence less; our loan cups are free with a returnable deposit and come back in on your next visit.
Will you grind a retail bag for my brewer?
Free, at the till, while you wait. Tell us the brewer by name — aeropress, moka, French press, filter cone — and we will set the grinder for it rather than guessing.
When is the room quietest?
First half hour after opening and the stretch from 2.30pm to close. The noisiest window is 11.30am to 1.30pm, when the second bake lands and the grinder runs almost continuously.

06 — Enquiries

Private hire & wholesale beans

Two things we arrange in advance: the room outside opening hours for a small gathering or tasting, and a standing bean order for offices and small kitchens. Everything else you can simply walk in for.

Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we will reply with dates, quantities and what it would cost — no deposit taken by this form.

We read enquiries between services and answer the same week.
